About Dr Le Roux
Dr Johan le Roux is a highly skilled orthopaedic surgeon with a specialised focus on knee surgery, driven by a passion for precision and patient care. He obtained his medical degree (MBChB) in 2006 from Stellenbosch University and completed his internship at Pietermaritzburg Hospital Complex. During his early training, he gained diverse experience in rural and first-world medicine, working in hospitals in Malawi and the Netherlands.
After completing a diploma in anaesthetics in East London, Dr. le Roux’s mechanically and technically minded nature drew him to the intricacies of orthopaedics. In 2010, he began working as an emergency doctor at Life St Dominic’s Hospital in East London, and the following year, he became an orthopaedic senior medical officer at Frere Hospital. After gaining valuable orthopaedic training in East London, Dr. le Roux returned to Cape Town to serve as a registrar in the orthopaedic surgery department of Stellenbosch University at Tygerberg Hospital. In 2019 he became a Fellow of the College of Surgeons (FC Ortho), and obtained his masters degree in Orthopaedic Surgery (MMed Ortho).
Dr. le Roux furthered his expertise by completing an ISAKOS Specialist Knee Surgery Fellowship at Groote Schuur Hospital in 2020. In 2021, he gained invaluable experience in knee surgery by working part-time with Dr. Spike Erasmus at The Stellenbosch Knee Clinic. Today, Dr. le Roux is in private practice as an orthopaedic surgeon, focusing on knee surgery, general orthopaedics and trauma surgery while remaining actively involved in orthopaedic research.
A thought leader in his field, Dr. le Roux has authored and co-authored multiple articles in international and local medical journals on topics such as cartilage transplantation, knee ligament biomechanics, and the development of a new knee assessment test. He has presented his findings at local and international medical congresses, contributing to advancements in knee surgery.
